Fish is deficient in the minerals that cats need like iron sodium and calcium. If your cat already eats a lot of fish start mixing some in with non-fish cat food to wean down to less or no fish. Furthermore most of the fish used in cat food is contaminated with heavy metals and toxins.
If you only give your cat it occasionally its not a problem. Coli or salmonella raw fish poses a particular threat to felines because it contains the enzyme thiaminase. Cats can eat small amounts of canned tuna as a treat every now and then but if it makes up a large part of their diet they too are at risk for thiamine deficiency. Fish oil supplements are not toxic to dogs and cats but they do have side effects.
