A coyote will rarely consider attacking a cat if not hungry. One reason for a coyote to attack a cat outside of hunger is the protection of their young. We were only able to recover a two-inch piece of the harness.
Coyotes do not kill for sport. Laws out here are very strict about shooting in residential areas near public roadways and powerlines. If there are plenty of these animals in your area its unlikely that it will pay much attention to your cat. Coyotes are known carriers of rabies and this can be extremely dangerous even for dogs.
